UNITY IN THE "CITY ON THE HILL"

Hello and welcome back to this blog, in today's reflections i choose to carefully look at a popular song under the title City on the Hill by Casting Crowns. This is a song that talks of an imaginary city where the residents though having different abilities thought they had nothing good to do but rather decided to walk away and the vigor, life and the light in the city faded away. No longer would the light shine nor the fire warm the city because everyone decided to walk away thinking they had nothing to do with the warmth and light of the city. in the same way these people in their finite minds thought they had nothing to do in the city so do we in our place of work, the body of Christ, in our villages, in our country and wherever else we find ourselves in. Sometimes we think we are better than others and they too have nothing to contribute. But as you read this lyrics i trust that it inspires you to embrace unity and working with others for the betterment of our society. Because we need is to have people who loves to appreciate others and their role. We all have different talents and gifts but not to serve ourselves but the whole society. If we decide to hide away then we are doing injustice to others and to ourselves. Otherwise the society will remain dull and gromy when we decide to walk away from our place.

Did you hear of the city on the hill
Said one old man to the other
It once shined bright, and it would be shining still
But they all started turning on each other

You see the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speak

But one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill

Each one thought that they knew better
But they were different by design
Instead of standing strong together
They let their differences divide

And one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill

And the world is searching still

But it was the rhythm of the dancers
That gave the poets life
It was the spirit of the poets
That gave the soldiers strength to fight
It was fire of the young ones
It was the wisdom of the old
It was the story of the poor man
That needed to be told

It is the rhythm of the dancers
That gives the poets life
It is the spirit of the poets
That gives the soldiers strength to fight
It is fire of the young ones
It is the wisdom of the old
It is the story of the poor man
That's needing to be told

But one by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill

One by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill
The city on the hill
