I Have a Silver Bullet

Talking of guns and bullets in Kenya especially at this time will elicit fear, anger, hatred, despair, abandonment and despondency for some. If you are familiar with the Kenyan story, over the last couple of years, people have lost their sons, daughters, mums, dads, relatives and friends through terrorism. The bad guys purported from the Al-Shaabab militia group with its base in Somalia, have instilled ‘fear’ among the Kenyan citizens by cowardly carrying out heinous acts of murdering innocent Kenyans. They mostly use hand grenades and heavy guys. And thus they have murdered tens of Kenyans through the barrel of guns. Anyway I pay tribute to the fallen comrades and may their souls rest in peace. I also pass my condolences to their families.
I have no intention of talking about the militia group or its activities. Neither am I interested in causing fear to you. I instead want to talk on a different issue.

A silver bullet is an old age cliché that’s used to mean a quick fix to a problem. It’s a simplified solution whether reasonable or not to a challenge so long as it relieves to stress, pain, pissing or such.

When we all start in life, we have many expectations. Most, if not us will want to become shrewd entrepreneurs, we want to rise to the greatest pinnacles of impressive positions of leadership, influence, courage, bravely, expertise, power, vision, charisma, honor, faith, resilience and dedication. We want to be the most valuable in our field. Moreover, everyone wants to do business with some ‘powerful people’ in government and revered business leaders. We want to have ‘god fathers’ figures who know the ‘system’ and close to the seat of influence so that they remain to be our help when need arise. And by choice the ‘lucky ones’ will use this technique to achieve their dream.
However, a good number of us lie outside the bracket of those who know no one of the ‘who –is-who’ in the system. And given this circumstance, we really have to work our way to the top. If we want to be wealth, then we have to outsmart the smartest and run our race until we gain wealth. If we want to be the best in our profession, then we must work our way. We have to chat our way to the top. If we want to be billionaire the, norm is to think, act and live like one so says the principle of getting rich. It may or may not work for you. This will however frustrated you if it does not work.
Today I have a silver bullet for your success and excellence in life- It’s different from ‘run after who is who’ and lick their shoe for ‘a favor’. It’s simple but very vital.
The secret to making it to the top is using our talents and skills. This will be the sure way to excellence. This is the key, rule and language of success. Discovering what you are best at, sharpening it and using it will propel your life to the sky. I was surprised the other day when I came across these words from the bible, ‘Do you see a man skilled in his labour, He will serve before king.’ I have read this verse a couple of times. It did not make any sense nonetheless until some days when what I started as a hobby and was my talent, writing, earned me some money and me made me meet with guys I never had the thought of ever meeting.
When you are talented, everyone, even the rulers and other successful people will want you to serve them. People will scramble to hear your wisdom, marvel at your expertise, will reward your work and honor commitments with you. You will be celebrated when you are talented and skilled. They will compliment you. They will offer their assistant for you go grow. They will stand with you until you reach your apex of excellence. Talents and skilled labour will save you the agony of having to do tasks that are meaningless. They will save useful energy on your journey to the top.
Having good business ideas, having to know the who-is-who and having capital may not all let you succeed in business. You need to compliment that with your skills that are polished. Skills when you are working that will attract partners to want to do business with you. It will cause everyone want to do business with you. People will run with contracts for you to sign. People will want to be identified with you. Talents and skills will make you a brand that people will want to buy. They will be your selling values. They will determine if you will win a true compliment when you leave the world of, ‘You have fight the battle, run the race….’
I thus encourage you to do all within your reach to work on your talent and skills and prove them. Do not fear that they are not less important or insignificant. Every skill and ability matters, even if it’s less appreciated. Be bold to use it. Its needed for human race and its progression. Nature and God will work out all the modalities of you getting noticed by men and you will join hands with people who want excellence. God will open doors and cause someone to favor you if you have the know-how to work. If you become best in your work, success will be the sure destination for you.
You must everyday do something to enrich your abilities. Be trained and equipped to use your skills and talents. Attend seminars and workshops to be taught how best to use them in every day life. You must look for opportunities to show case what you have been gifted in. if best in science, then be the best scientist that every research institution will want to partner with in doing new research. If a business do business with uttermost faithfulness and people with want to partner with. If a man of faith and a pastor, be an example of faith and excel in speaking the truth. And if you are a ruler do it diligently. You will leave a legacy and an example.
As if that was not enough, look for ordinary people who will complement your skills. Look out for ordinary men and women from your locality who have a passion for what you are doing use them to grow with. Normally, look for no big people you think are best to work with but search for those who may not seem to be likely best partners. Instead be the best partner to be emulated.
Run your race without looking to the right or to the left on what others are doing with their talents and skills. They are on their course. They are not your rivals. They are not a threat to you. Do not hate them. Love them and work with/around them. Just be best in your area. Leave the results to God.
And now that’s my silver bullet
